Weather & Snow

Snow & sun at a glance.

With the first snowflakes in late autumn, a new winter wonderland begins every year in Obertauern. Snow-covered peaks and a majestic natural landscape covered in a white blanket provide a unique backdrop from November to May. The abundant natural snow is due to a special weather constellation in the Tauern mountains, where snow clouds from the north and south meet and distribute the white flakes generously over Obertauern. According to a study published in 2016, Obertauern leads the ranking of the seven snowiest winter sports resorts in Austria with an average maximum snow depth of 264 centimetres.

The snow depths given are average values for the entire ski area. Due to the geographical location of individual measuring stations, local variations may occur, for example in exposed or sheltered areas.
